Now, we find out that every year, we’ve been giving money (not minimal, either – around 1 billion per year) to Egypt (during Mubarak regime) in order to keep the peace and enforce the treaty.

Of course, now that Hamas is in rule there (excuse me, Muslim Brotherhood), this peace is likely to be in danger and the heretofor agreements thrown aside.

If we’re doing deals like this, no wonder we’re in so much debt.

But, at the same time, you seem to have have no problem raising our taxes (speaking as one of the ‘little’ people)?

You people can’t agree on anything and I think BOTH sides are worthless at this point. Can I afford an extra $1000 a year, just so you can go on providing us NOTHING?

NO!!

Why are muslims even wanting to go to a private Catholic University anyway? They knew up front that a Catholic University was on the opposite side of the spectrum from their belief system.

If I go to France, I will try to conform with France’s way of doing things – I would never expect them to change to my country’s way of doing things. I can’t go into my local department store and say that since they don’t sell cars, it’s violating my rights.

This is not a Human Rights issue – it’s a stupidity issue. And, if that university bends, or is forced to accomodate the beliefs of another religion, then that will be the start of the downfall of the US.

I got one of those mortgages 7 years ago. Now, I want to refinance with a better interest rate and a 15 year term. I currently have a 6 percent loan and my bank was willing to refinance my existing mortgage with a 15 year, 4.357 rate mortage. I could have started it the day I called them on the phone, with no problem.

However due to the classification, I could not do it. The new mortgage would need to be the same, the interest rate would be higher, and I would need to have a much higher credit score for qualification.

I’m on the side of the United States - and I say get out of there. We have no business being there and our country needs the money which is being spent there much more.

We’re already spending too much money (IMHO) on building infrastructure in other countries when our infrastructure is crumbling here.

I guess I’m just not cool enough yet.

And, if you’ll remember, all over the Muslim world, when the Twin Towers fell in New York, there were also people dancing in the streets.

But there’s one bit of difference that makes all the difference in the world. When THEY did it, they were celebrating the death of thousands of innocent people. This exemplifies hate.

When we did it, it was because JUSTICE had been carried out. Oh – and by the way, keep in mind, that to really have a chance at real justice, you must live in a truly democratic society, like the US.

IMHO, we are doing too much as it is. I think it’s a valiant thing we do trying to protect the world against itself. However we can’t keep doing it. We have too many problems going on homeside, hunger, poverty, etc.

We need to address these things first. There are those who are saying all this world unrest in the middle east countries is based on hunger. It very well could be.

But, the more we spend on this and not on the basics that our country needs, the more we spiral downward. We can’t do anything without borrowing money to do it, now. Our debt is too high as it is.

Think about it – about a third of the corn we grow here goes to ethanol, for gasoline, not food for people (see my other post on how to fix this – http://blog.davidwier.com/?p=96). When will this insanity stop? We can’t be the world’s police forever! Besides, most of the time, when we go out and help people, they just end up hating us for one reason or another. Look at France – and how long has that been going on?

By the way – have you checked out the cost to our air force for a cruise missle these days? It’s well over $mil each. The People and Congress have not voted for us. There is absolutely NO danger to the US. This is THEIR civil war. Most of the muslim countries – and people — in that part of the world hate us.

We have no business being there.

But then maybe that’s just me.
